In a tragic incident that has deeply affected the NFL community, former Cleveland Browns running back Benjamin Gay died in a car accident on July 29, 2024, at the age of 44. Gay, who played for the Browns during the 2001 season, was remembered for his significant contributions on the field, including a memorable touchdown that led to a victory over the then-defending Super Bowl champions, the Baltimore Ravens. Beyond his professional achievements, Gay was a father of three, and his untimely passing has elicited an outpouring of tributes from fans and former teammates alike.

In another somber event, Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson, aged 24, was killed in a car crash in Prince George’s County, Maryland, on July 6, 2024. Jackson was traveling with his former high school football teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr., when their vehicle was struck by another car driven by Cori Clingman. Clingman has since been charged with multiple counts, including negligent manslaughter and driving under the influence. Investigations revealed that Clingman’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit and that high speeds were a factor in the crash. The Minnesota Vikings honored Jackson by contributing to his funeral expenses and ensuring his signing bonus was paid to his estate.
