Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is among thirteen players across Major League Baseball to receive a qualifying offer for the 2026 season

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop **Bo Bichette** is among thirteen players across Major League Baseball to receive a **qualifying offer** for the 2026 season, the league announced Friday. The one-year offer, valued at **$22.025 million**, represents the average salary of the 125 highest-paid players in the sport and serves as a mechanism for teams to retain or receive draft-pick compensation should a player depart via free agency.

For the Blue Jays, extending the offer to Bichette was an expected move. The 27-year-old remains one of the franchise’s cornerstone pieces—a two-time All-Star and one of the most consistent hitters in the American League since his debut. Despite battling injuries during the 2025 season, Bichette still managed to post a solid offensive line, showing flashes of the form that made him one of baseball’s premier shortstops.

The qualifying offer gives Bichette and the Blue Jays several paths forward. If he accepts, he’ll remain in Toronto on a one-year, $22.025 million deal. If he declines, he will test the open market, allowing Toronto to receive a compensatory draft pick if he signs elsewhere. Given his age, production, and positional value, most analysts believe Bichette is likely to explore free agency in pursuit of a long-term contract, though Toronto remains motivated to negotiate an extension.

General Manager Ross Atkins has repeatedly stated that Bichette is “a core piece of our vision,” and the organization continues to view him as integral to its competitive window. For now, the qualifying offer ensures the Blue Jays remain in play as talks continue. Bichette has until **November 14** to decide whether to accept or decline the offer—a choice that could shape not only his future but the direction of the Blue Jays’ offseason strategy.
