The Penrith Panthers have announced the extension of Paul Alamoti’s contract, securing the promising outside back until the end of the 2027 NRL season. Alamoti, 20, initially joined the Panthers on a one-year deal but has now committed to a longer tenure following a standout season.

Alamoti made his NRL debut in 2023 with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, appearing in 19 games during his rookie season. In 2024, he transitioned to the Panthers, where he played 16 matches, scoring eight tries and successfully kicking 18 goals. His contributions were pivotal in Penrith’s premiership success, highlighted by a crucial try in the grand final against the Melbourne Storm.

His impressive form did not go unnoticed on the international stage, as Alamoti earned his Test debut for Tonga in a match against Australia at Suncorp Stadium.

Reflecting on his journey, Alamoti acknowledged the challenges and rewards of his decision to join Penrith. “I had to take a step back in life for a three-step gain, but this is our three-step gain. I’m over the line, and it ended up working out,” he stated.

Panthers General Manager of Football, Shane Elford, expressed the club’s enthusiasm about Alamoti’s future with the team. “Paul is an exceptionally talented and respectful young man, both on and off the field. He has taken every opportunity presented to him, and we are excited to see what the future holds for him with the Panthers,” Elford said.

Alamoti’s journey to the Panthers was influenced by roster changes, notably the departure of Stephen Crichton to the Bulldogs. This move created an opportunity for Alamoti, who seized it and quickly became an integral part of Penrith’s lineup. His rapid development was further accelerated by the absence of Taylan May, allowing Alamoti to showcase his versatility and skill in various positions.

Looking ahead, Alamoti is set to continue his international duties, with Tonga scheduled to face New Zealand on November 2.

Alamoti’s contract extension underscores the Panthers’ commitment to nurturing young talent and maintaining their competitive edge in the NRL. Fans and analysts alike will be keen to see how his career unfolds in the coming years.
