Knicks Sign P.J. Tucker to Second 10-Day Contract

The New York Knicks have signed veteran forward P.J. Tucker to a second 10-day contract, the team announced Friday. Tucker’s initial 10-day deal expired earlier this week, but the Knicks opted to retain the 38-year-old for another short-term stint as they continue their push toward the postseason.

Tucker, who was acquired by the Knicks from the LA Clippers in the trade that sent Quentin Grimes to Los Angeles, had not played a game this season before joining New York. He had been out of the Clippers’ rotation for months before the trade, but the Knicks took a chance on his experience, defensive versatility, and toughness. In his limited action with New York so far, Tucker has provided leadership and occasional defensive contributions, though he remains far from his peak form.

Despite his minimal on-court impact, the Knicks’ decision to sign him to another 10-day contract suggests they value his presence in the locker room and his potential role as a situational defender in the playoffs. New York, currently dealing with multiple injuries to key players like Julius Randle and OG Anunoby, can use all the depth they can get.

If Tucker continues with the team after this second 10-day deal, the Knicks would have to sign him for the remainder of the season. Whether they make that move will likely depend on his performance and the team’s overall health situation.

For now, the Knicks will give the battle-tested veteran another opportunity to prove he can contribute to their playoff push.
