The Boston Red Sox have finalized their 2025 roster, signaling a new era with significant acquisitions and strategic adjustments aimed at returning to postseason contention.

The most notable addition is All-Star infielder Alex Bregman, who joined the team on a three-year, $120 million contract. Initially, Bregman was slated to play second base to accommodate Rafael Devers at third. However, Devers eventually transitioned to the designated hitter role, allowing Bregman to assume his natural position at third base.

The season took an unexpected turn with a season-ending injury to first baseman Triston Casas, prompting the team to consider Devers for the first base position. Devers declined the move, leading to a temporary solution involving players like Abraham Toro and Romy González.

The finalized Opening Day lineup reflects these changes:(

  1. Jarren Duran (LF)
  2. Alex Bregman (3B)
  3. Rafael Devers (DH)
  4. Triston Casas (1B)
  5. Trevor Story (SS)
  6. Masataka Yoshida (DH)
  7. Wilyer Abreu (RF)
  8. Connor Wong (C)
  9. Ceddanne Rafaela (CF)

On the pitching front, the Red Sox bolstered their rotation by acquiring Garrett Crochet, who signed a six-year, $170 million contract, making him a cornerstone of the starting lineup.

Despite early-season challenges, including roster adjustments and injuries, the Red Sox’s revamped lineup and strengthened rotation position them as strong contenders in the American League East.
