SHOCKED: Lions predicted to trade for $4.2 Million patriots QB as Jared Goff replacement… See more

Recent speculation suggests that the Detroit Lions might consider trading for New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton as a potential successor to Jared Goff. Milton, on a $4.2 million rookie contract, earned the nickname “Bazooka Joe” for his exceptional arm strength and showcased significant progress during his limited playtime.

Despite these rumors, the Lions have demonstrated a strong commitment to Goff. In May 2024, they signed him to a four-year, $212 million contract extension with $170 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid player in franchise history. This extension followed a stellar season where Goff led the Lions to their first division title in over three decades and their first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1991.

Given Goff’s recent performance and the substantial investment the Lions have made in him, it seems unlikely that the team would pursue a trade for Milton as an immediate replacement. However, acquiring a promising young quarterback like Milton could be a strategic move for the Lions to develop talent for the future, ensuring depth and continuity at the quarterback position. This approach would allow Milton to learn under Goff’s mentorship, potentially stepping in when the time is right.
