Rising star Roman Anthony couldn’t hide his excitement as he addressed the media following the Boston Red Sox’s clinching of a playoff berth. After spending several weeks sidelined due to injury, the 20-year-old outfielder returned just in time to help power Boston down the stretch, and his presence has already made a noticeable impact.
“It feels amazing to be back,” Anthony said in the clubhouse, grinning as teammates celebrated around him. “Watching from the sidelines was tough, especially with how close the race was. I just wanted to get out there, contribute, and be a part of this run. To come back and see the guys fight the way they have all year—it makes me proud to wear this jersey.”
Anthony, one of Boston’s top prospects and a key piece of their future, was promoted earlier this season and quickly won fans over with his poise at the plate and athleticism in the field. His return to the lineup added another spark to an offense that has been firing on all cylinders in September.
Manager Alex Cora praised Anthony’s maturity, noting how seamlessly he has adjusted to high-pressure situations. “For someone his age, Roman plays with incredible composure,” Cora said. “He doesn’t shy away from big moments, and that’s something this team feeds off.”
While Anthony admitted that he is still working to regain full rhythm after his time off, he emphasized that his focus is on winning. “The playoffs are what you dream about as a kid,” he said. “Now it’s real. We’ve got an opportunity in front of us, and I’ll do whatever I can—big or small—to help this team go as far as possible.”
For Red Sox Nation, Anthony’s return couldn’t have come at a better time.
