Kevin Walters’ Huge Call on Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam Amid Selwyn Cobbo Switch

Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters has made a bold statement about Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam as the club adjusts to Selwyn Cobbo’s switch to the centres. With Cobbo moving from the wing to a more central role, Walters believes Walsh and Mam are set to take their games to another level in 2024.

Cobbo’s shift is seen as a strategic move to bolster Brisbane’s attacking options, allowing the explosive outside back to see more of the ball. However, Walters insists the key to the team’s success will still revolve around Walsh and Mam, who played pivotal roles in the Broncos’ surge to the 2023 NRL Grand Final.

“Reece and Ezra are only going to get better,” Walters said. “They’re still young, but the way they play the game, the confidence they bring, and the energy they have—it’s exciting for us as a team.”

Walsh, the electric fullback, was one of the NRL’s standout players last season, while Mam’s speed and vision were instrumental in Brisbane’s attack. Walters is confident that with Cobbo in the centres, the combination between the trio will become even more dangerous.

“Selwyn’s a natural footballer, and we think he can add another dimension in the centres,” Walters added. “But for us to take the next step, guys like Reece and Ezra need to keep leading the way with their creativity and attacking instincts.”

With the Broncos looking to go one better in 2024 after falling short in last year’s Grand Final, Walters’ faith in his young stars signals a belief that Brisbane’s best is still to come.
