Ragnar’s Legacy Rises: Netflix Embraces Bold Mythology in *The Raven’s Oath

Netflix is diving deep into Norse mythology and historical fantasy with its upcoming limited series *The Raven’s Oath*, set to premiere in Fall 2025. Described as a spiritual successor to *Vikings* and *The Last Kingdom*, the new series aims to carve its own saga in blood, destiny, and legend—bridging myth and history in a bold new way.

Set in the shadow of Ragnar Lothbrok’s legacy, *The Raven’s Oath* follows Eydis, a fierce shieldmaiden and daughter of a disgraced jarl, who is thrust into a web of prophecy, betrayal, and war. When an ancient raven-bound oath is awakened, Eydis must decide whether to uphold the fractured honor of her ancestors or forge a new path through the Nine Realms. Blending historical settings with fantastical elements like seers, cursed relics, and gods who walk among mortals, the show promises an immersive world where the line between fate and free will is as thin as a blade’s edge.

Netflix has assembled an international cast and enlisted acclaimed showrunner Katrín Jónsdóttir (of *The Hollow Fjord*) to helm the project. Known for her gritty realism and visual storytelling, Jónsdóttir brings a cinematic flair to every saga-spun moment. The series was filmed across Iceland, Norway, and Northern Ireland, showcasing haunting fjords, icy mountains, and ancient Viking strongholds.

With *The Raven’s Oath*, Netflix signals a renewed commitment to genre storytelling rooted in myth and cultural depth. The series promises not just epic battles and supernatural intrigue, but a character-driven narrative centered on power, identity, and the cost of legacy. As the ravens circle and the drums of war echo across the North, *The Raven’s Oath* may very well become the next must-watch epic for fans of myth, history, and high-stakes drama.
