Production Begins on the Desmo450 MX, Ducati’s First-Ever Motocross Bike
Ducati has officially entered the motocross world with the start of production on the highly anticipated Desmo450 MX, the company’s first purpose-built motocross bike. This landmark moment marks a significant expansion for the iconic Italian motorcycle manufacturer, traditionally known for its dominance in road racing and performance street bikes.
The Desmo450 MX is the result of years of development and testing, combining Ducati’s racing heritage with the rugged demands of off-road competition. At the heart of the new motocross machine is a 450cc single-cylinder engine featuring the brand’s signature Desmodromic valve system—an engineering hallmark typically reserved for Ducati’s superbikes. The result is a lightweight, high-performance engine tuned for quick throttle response and optimal power delivery in dirt racing conditions.
Designed in collaboration with top motocross experts and tested by professional riders, the Desmo450 MX features a lightweight chassis, long-travel suspension, and premium components aimed at delivering agility, durability, and top-tier handling on the toughest tracks.
Production is underway at Ducati’s headquarters in Bologna, Italy, with the first bikes set to be delivered to factory and test teams ahead of the upcoming 2025 motocross season. Ducati also plans to support a full racing program in the MXGP and AMA Supercross circuits, signaling their commitment to becoming a competitive force in off-road motorsport.
“The Desmo450 MX is more than just a new model—it’s a new chapter for Ducati,” said Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati. “We’re excited to bring our passion for racing to the world of motocross.”
With the Desmo450 MX, Ducati aims to challenge industry heavyweights like KTM, Honda, and Yamaha, and reshape the off-road landscape with Italian performance and design flair.
