Greg Inglis, a celebrated figure in rugby league, has embarked on a significant new chapter in his career by joining the Wests Tigers as an assistant coach for their NRLW team in the 2025 season. In this role, Inglis will serve as a specialist assistant coach, focusing on the development of the team’s outside backs. His extensive experience and profound understanding of the game are anticipated to be invaluable assets to the squad.
Inglis’s association with the Wests Tigers is not entirely new. In 2024, he worked with the club in a mentoring capacity, particularly guiding young fullback Jahream Bula. This mentorship aimed to help Bula navigate the challenges of professional rugby league and manage the pressures associated with the sport.
Beyond his involvement with the Wests Tigers, Inglis has expanded his coaching repertoire by joining the Queensland Women’s State of Origin team as an assistant coach. Head coach Tahnee Norris expressed enthusiasm about Inglis’s appointment, highlighting his legendary status and longstanding advocacy for women’s rugby league. Norris emphasized the immense value Inglis brings, particularly in mentoring the outside backs, and noted that his full-time involvement would be a significant asset to the squad.
Inglis’s transition into coaching roles follows his retirement from professional play in 2019. Upon retiring, he took on positions as a development coach and Indigenous player mentor with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, working across various teams within the club’s pathways. His focus was on ensuring a consistent approach to recruitment, talent identification, and skill development, as well as supporting the educational and well-being needs of Indigenous players.
In addition to his coaching endeavors, Inglis founded the Goanna Academy, an initiative aimed at promoting mental health awareness and support, particularly within Indigenous communities. Through the academy, he has conducted coaching clinics and mental health talks, emphasizing the importance of well-being alongside athletic development.
