Netflix Set to Release Documentary on Legendary Band The Doors
Netflix has officially announced the upcoming release of a brand-new documentary chronicling the life, music, and legacy of the iconic rock band, The Doors. Titled Break On Through: The Doors Unlocked, the documentary promises an immersive look into the band’s meteoric rise, the cultural impact they left behind, and the enigmatic persona of frontman Jim Morrison.
“We are happy to announce that we are done with production and it will be released on July 25, 2025,” said the production team in a joint statement. “This has been a labor of love, and we’ve worked closely with surviving band members, family, and archival sources to ensure authenticity and depth.”
The film will feature never-before-seen footage, rare photos, and exclusive interviews with surviving members Robby Krieger and John Densmore, along with music historians and artists influenced by The Doors. Viewers can expect a deep dive into the creation of timeless hits like “Light My Fire,” “Riders on the Storm,” and “People Are Strange,” as well as candid commentary on the band’s turbulent journey through fame, creativity, and controversy during the 1960s counterculture movement.
Directed by award-winning documentarian Liz Garbus, Break On Through also explores the poetic genius and inner turmoil of Jim Morrison, highlighting his lasting influence on rock music and modern performance art. The documentary aims not only to celebrate the band’s musical achievements but also to understand their role in reshaping American culture during a transformative era.
With its release set for this summer, fans both old and new will have a unique opportunity to experience the story of The Doors like never before. The film will be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix starting July 25.
