Netflix Announces New Sports Documentary Honoring Snooker Legend Mark Williams

Netflix has announced the release of a brand-new sports documentary celebrating the life and career of snooker icon Mark Williams. The film will explore the extraordinary journey of the three-time World Champion, whose unique personality and remarkable achievements have made him one of the most beloved figures in the sport.

Born in Cwm, South Wales, Williams rose from humble beginnings to become one of snooker’s most consistent and entertaining players. Known affectionately as the “Welsh Potting Machine,” he broke through in the 1990s and went on to dominate alongside contemporaries such as Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins. With 24 ranking titles to his name, Williams remains one of only three players in history to capture snooker’s “Triple Crown” in a single season, cementing his place among the all-time greats.

The documentary promises to go beyond the table, shining a light on Williams’ down-to-earth character, his dry humor, and his unconventional approach to the sport. From his fearless playing style to his late-career resurgence — including a dramatic 2018 World Championship victory at the age of 43 — the film highlights both his resilience and his enduring love for the game.

Netflix says the project will feature rare behind-the-scenes footage, candid interviews with family, fellow players, and commentators, and previously unseen moments that capture the highs and lows of Williams’ remarkable career.

“Mark Williams is more than a snooker champion; he’s a story of perseverance, individuality, and joy,” a Netflix spokesperson said. “We’re excited to share his journey with audiences worldwide.”
