Snooker star Neil Robertson has been formally awarded the **Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)** in the General Division, in recognition of his services to snooker. The honour was approved by the Governor‑General and became effective on **26 January 2025**, as part of the Australia Day Honours List.
As a result of this accolade, Robertson can now officially use the initials **“OAM”** after his name. The news came via formal correspondence notifying him that he had been under consideration for the Order of Australia and that the award had been approved. He was asked to keep the award confidential until the official public announcement on Australia Day.
Robertson expressed immense pride and gratitude upon learning of the honour. On social media he said:
> “Wow what an honour. The proudest moment of my career! A kid growing up in Australia I could never imagine something like this.”He spoke about how unlikely it seemed when he was younger that he would receive such recognition from his country.
Robertson’s snooker record is already extraordinary: he is the most successful Australian in the sport, has won 24 ranking titles (including the World Championship in 2010), is the only non‑UK born player to have completed the Triple Crown, and has been multiple times UK Champion and Masters winner.
