NBA LATEST: LA Lakers Officially Announce Dwight Howard’s Return to Finish What He Started

The Los Angeles Lakers have officially announced the re-signing of veteran center Dwight Howard, bringing back the three-time Defensive Player of the Year for another stint in purple and gold. Howard, an eight-time NBA All-Star, is set to rejoin the Lakers with a clear mission: to finish what he started.

Howard, 38, has had multiple stints with the Lakers, most notably helping the team win the 2020 NBA Championship inside the Orlando bubble. After playing for various teams over the past few seasons, including overseas in Taiwan, the former No. 1 overall pick is ready to bring his defensive presence, rebounding, and experience back to Los Angeles.

“I’m excited to be back home,” Howard said in a statement. “Laker Nation has always been special to me, and I can’t wait to contribute and help this team compete for another championship.”

The Lakers, who have been searching for frontcourt depth behind Anthony Davis, see Howard as a valuable veteran presence who can bring energy off the bench. While he may no longer be in his prime, Howard’s size, experience, and physicality can still make an impact, especially in a rotational role.

This marks Howard’s fourth stint with the Lakers, having previously played for the team in 2012-13, 2019-20, and 2021-22. His reunion with the franchise comes as the Lakers continue to make roster adjustments in pursuit of another deep playoff run.

With Howard back in the mix, Lakers fans are hopeful that the big man’s return can provide a spark as the team looks to reclaim its place among the NBA’s elite.
