LSU women’s basketball has welcomed back one of its most iconic figures, Seimone Augustus, as an assistant coach under head coach Kim Mulkey. This homecoming marks a significant moment for the program, reuniting LSU with a player who was instrumental in elevating the team to national prominence.

Augustus, a Baton Rouge native, had a stellar collegiate career at LSU from 2002 to 2006, leading the Tigers to their first three Final Four appearances and earning multiple National Player of the Year honors. Her impact on the program was profound, and she remains second on LSU’s all-time scoring list with 2,702 points.

Following her collegiate success, Augustus was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx. Her professional career was equally impressive, highlighted by four WNBA championships, an MVP title in the 2011 WNBA Finals, and three Olympic gold medals with Team USA. She was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024 and is set to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame later this year.

In her new role at LSU, Augustus brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game. Her return is not only a nod to her past contributions but also a strategic move to mentor and develop the next generation of Lady Tigers. Coach Mulkey expressed enthusiasm about Augustus joining the staff, emphasizing her leadership qualities and basketball IQ.

Augustus herself expressed heartfelt sentiments about returning to her alma mater, stating, “Life always guides you to where you belong. Thus, my path has led me home.” Her presence is expected to inspire current players and strengthen LSU’s position as a powerhouse in women’s college basketball.
