Jack Lambert, a name etched into the very soul of Pittsburgh Steelers history, remains one of the most iconic linebackers the NFL has ever seen. Known for his intense playing style, bone-rattling hits, and famously toothless snarl, Lambert embodied the gritty, no-nonsense spirit of 1970s football.
Born in Mantua, Ohio, in 1952, Lambert wasn’t the biggest linebacker by modern standards—standing 6’4″ but weighing just over 220 pounds. Drafted in the second round of the 1974 NFL Draft by the Steelers, Lambert immediately made an impact, winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and helping launch one of the most dominant defensive dynasties in football history.
Lambert anchored the legendary “Steel Curtain” defense, a unit that helped propel the Steelers to four Super Bowl championships in just six years (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979). He was selected to nine Pro Bowls, named First-Team All-Pro six times, and won NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1976.
