The New Orleans Saints have officially announced the hiring of Kellen Moore as their new head coach, marking a significant milestone in the franchise’s history. Moore, at 36, becomes the youngest head coach in the NFL and the 19th in Saints history. His appointment comes on the heels of a successful tenure as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, culminating in a Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

In a statement released by the team, Saints owner Gayle Benson expressed her enthusiasm for the new hire:

“At the start of the interview process, it was important to find a head coach who was the right fit for the New Orleans Saints organization. Through the search process, it became clear that Kellen is the right person to help us re-establish a winning program and culture that our fans are accustomed to and have come to expect.”

Moore’s coaching career has been marked by rapid advancement and notable achievements. After retiring from a playing career that included stints with the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys, he transitioned into coaching, starting as the quarterbacks coach for the Cowboys in 2018. He was quickly promoted to offensive coordinator, a role he held until 2022. He then served as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 before joining the Eagles in 2024. Under his guidance, the Eagles’ offense flourished, ranking eighth in total yards per game and seventh in points per game. The team’s rushing attack was particularly potent, setting a franchise record with 3,048 yards, the sixth-best in NFL history.

Moore’s appointment signals a new direction for the Saints, who are looking to rebound from a challenging 5-12 season. His offensive expertise and innovative approach are expected to revitalize the team’s performance. In his introductory statement, Moore conveyed his eagerness to embrace the challenges ahead:

“I am excited to join the New Orleans Saints and deeply appreciate the faith that Mrs. Benson and the entire Saints organization have placed in me. I look forward to embracing the challenges ahead and am eager to get started.”

The Saints’ decision to hire Moore reflects a commitment to building a dynamic and forward-thinking coaching staff. As the organization embarks on this new chapter, both the leadership and fans are optimistic about the future under Moore’s guidance.
