BREAKING: LSU women’s basketball legend Seimone Augustus joining Kim Mulkey’s coaching staff….

LSU women’s basketball legend Seimone Augustus has returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach under head coach Kim Mulkey. Augustus, a Baton Rouge native, led LSU to three consecutive Final Four appearances from 2004 to 2006 and was a two-time Naismith Player of the Year. Her No. 33 jersey was retired in 2010, and a statue was erected in her honor in front of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

After a distinguished 15-season career in the WNBA, primarily with the Minnesota Lynx, Augustus transitioned to coaching. She spent the 2021–2022 season as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Sparks and later served as a facilitator for Athletes Unlimited Basketball in 2023. Her return to LSU fills the vacancy left by Johnny Derrick’s retirement and marks a new chapter in her coaching journey.

In her role, Augustus focuses on player development, bringing her extensive experience and leadership to the Tigers. Head coach Kim Mulkey praised Augustus’s quiet yet impactful leadership style, noting her ability to connect with players on a personal level. Augustus’s presence on the staff is expected to enhance LSU’s pursuit of national championship aspirations, especially following the departure of key players like Angel Reese.

Augustus expressed her excitement about returning to LSU, stating, “Life always guides you to where you belong. Thus, my path has led me home.” She looks forward to mentoring the next generation of Lady Tigers and contributing to the program’s continued success.
