BREAKING: Four-Star OT JB Shabazz Flips Commitment from Tennessee to North Carolina

In a major recruiting shakeup, four-star offensive tackle JB Shabazz has officially flipped his commitment from Tennessee to North Carolina. The 6-foot-7, 315-pound standout from Winston Salem, NC had been committed to the Volunteers since July but announced Thursday that he will now stay in-state to play for the Tar Heels.

Shabazz, ranked among the top offensive linemen in the 2025 class, had long been a priority target for UNC. Head coach Mack Brown and offensive line coach Randy Clements never backed off their pursuit, continuing to build a strong relationship with the local product even after his initial pledge to Tennessee. That persistence has now paid off in a big way.

In his commitment post, Shabazz cited “family, faith, and the opportunity to represent my home state” as key factors in his decision. The flip is a massive win for the Tar Heels, who have been stacking talent in the trenches in recent classes. Shabazz brings elite size, athleticism, and a nasty streak that projects well at either tackle spot.

For Tennessee, it’s a tough blow to lose one of their top commits — especially at a premium position. However, the Vols remain in the mix for several other top-tier linemen and will likely look to restock before signing day.

As for UNC, the commitment not only strengthens their 2025 class but sends a message that top talent in North Carolina doesn’t need to leave the state to compete at the highest level. Shabazz joins a growing list of blue-chip recruits choosing Chapel Hill over national powerhouses, signaling a shift in momentum for the Tar Heels on the recruiting trail.
