BREAKING: Derrick White Says Re-Signing with Celtics Was a “No-Brainer” After Championship Run
Fresh off helping the Boston Celtics capture their record-breaking 18th NBA championship in 2024, Derrick White has officially committed his future to the franchise — in a big way.
The veteran guard has agreed to a four-year, \$118 million extension, solidifying his place in Boston’s core as the team looks to chase more titles. Speaking on the decision, White called it a “no-brainer,” citing both personal and professional reasons for wanting to stay in Boston.
“After what we accomplished last season, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else,” White said. “This is where I want to build my legacy, raise my family, and chase more banners with these guys.”
White, 30, was a critical two-way force throughout the Celtics’ championship campaign. Known for his elite perimeter defense, timely shot-making, and basketball IQ, he quickly became a fan favorite at TD Garden and an indispensable piece of Joe Mazzulla’s rotation.
With Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and now White all under long-term contracts, the Celtics are positioned to remain title contenders for years to come.
“Derrick’s commitment means everything to us,” Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens said. “He embodies what we’re about — toughness, unselfishness, and winning. We’re thrilled he’s staying in green.”
White averaged 15.2 points, 5.3 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game last season while often guarding the opposing team’s best perimeter threat. His versatility and willingness to do the little things made him a perfect fit alongside Boston’s stars.
With this deal, White not only secures his financial future, but also makes it clear: he’s all in on building something special in Boston — and raising a few more banners along the way.
