Auburn baseball head coach Butch Thompson is making sure his team takes full advantage of a special weekend for Auburn athletics.
After their own game wraps up Saturday afternoon, Thompson and the entire baseball team will be heading to support Auburn men’s basketball in its NCAA Tournament Round of 32 matchup against Creighton. The Tigers’ basketball team, led by head coach Bruce Pearl, is looking to advance to the Sweet 16, and Thompson wants his team to be there to support them.
“We’re going to take full advantage of us both being here,” Thompson said. “We’re going to come out and compete in game two and go shower and get something to eat and then go support Bruce and the boys tomorrow night.”
Auburn baseball is currently in the middle of a series, but with both teams playing in Spokane, Washington, this weekend, Thompson sees it as a unique opportunity for Auburn’s athletic programs to rally around each other.
The bond between Auburn’s baseball and basketball programs is strong, with both teams frequently supporting one another. Thompson has long emphasized a culture of camaraderie within Auburn athletics, and this move further highlights that commitment.
Pearl’s team is coming off a dominant first-round victory, and they’ll face a tough Creighton squad with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line. With the baseball team in the stands, Auburn will have even more support as they fight to keep their season alive.
Auburn fans can expect to see a strong showing of unity from their baseball and basketball teams Saturday night, proving once again that the Auburn Family runs deep—on the field, on the court, and in the stands.
