Brisbane Broncos head coach Michael Maguire is pursuing the signing of a Sydney Roosters halfback. Recent reports have focused on Maguire’s interest in bringing former Broncos halfback Ben Hunt back to the club. Hunt, currently with the St. George Illawarra Dragons, has expressed a desire to return to Brisbane, but financial constraints may pose challenges.

In the meantime, the Broncos have secured key players in pivotal positions. Fullback Reece Walsh has committed to a four-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2029 season. Walsh’s dynamic performances have been instrumental for the team, and his continued presence is expected to bolster the Broncos’ attacking options.

Additionally, the club is monitoring the situation of five-eighth Ezra Mam, who was involved in a car accident in late 2024. Mam suffered a head injury and failed an initial roadside drug test. The Broncos are awaiting the results of a second test to determine potential charges. This incident has raised concerns about the team’s depth in the halves, potentially influencing future recruitment decisions.

Given these developments, while there is no current evidence of Maguire targeting a Sydney Roosters halfback, the Broncos’ recruitment strategy remains a topic of interest. The club’s management is likely exploring various options to strengthen the squad, particularly in the halves, to ensure a competitive edge in the upcoming season.
