LMPD: Man shot, killed in the St. Denis neighborhood

On the evening of October 5, 2023, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) responded to a shooting in the St. Denis neighborhood. At approximately 6:50 p.m., officers arrived at the 5000 block of Kaufman Lane, near the Cane Run Station Apartments, where they discovered 33-year-old William Martin Jr. outside an apartment building with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. LMPD’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, and while all parties have been accounted for, no arrests have been made at this time.

This incident is part of a series of violent events in the St. Denis neighborhood. In March 2024, a man was found shot to death inside a car on Shagbark Road. Later that year, in September, 59-year-old Victor Anderson Sr. was discovered deceased inside an apartment on Broadleaf Drive, initially believed to be from a gunshot wound, but later determined to be from assault and strangulation. Jalen Forrest was arrested and charged with his murder.

These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about safety in the area. Residents have expressed fear and concern, especially given the proximity of these events to their homes. Community members are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities. LMPD continues to investigate these incidents and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
