HEART OF GOLD: Bill LeRoy Donates Entire \$12.9 Million Bonus and Sponsorship Earnings to Homeless Shelter Initiative, Funding 150 Housing Units and 300 Shelter Beds in Atlanta and Beyond

In a remarkable act of generosity, professional baseball player Bill LeRoy has donated his entire \$12.9 million bonus and sponsorship earnings to a new homeless shelter initiative aimed at combating housing insecurity across Atlanta and surrounding communities.

The donation will fund the construction of 150 permanent supportive housing units and 300 emergency shelter beds, providing immediate relief and long-term solutions for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. LeRoy, a Georgia native, said the decision came from a deep desire to give back to the city that raised him.

“This isn’t about headlines or heroics,” LeRoy said in a statement. “It’s about using what I’ve been blessed with to make a real, lasting difference in people’s lives.”

The project, in collaboration with several non-profit organizations and city agencies, will launch this fall. Plans include wraparound services such as mental health support, job training, addiction recovery programs, and access to affordable childcare—key elements for helping residents get back on their feet.

Community leaders and housing advocates have praised LeRoy’s donation as a game-changer. “This is the kind of bold leadership we rarely see,” said Angela Wright, director of Housing First Atlanta. “Bill’s gift doesn’t just build beds and walls—it builds hope.”

LeRoy, known for his work ethic on and off the field, has previously volunteered at local shelters during offseasons. With this latest move, he’s making it clear that compassion is at the heart of his legacy.

“We need to stop walking past people and start walking with them,” LeRoy said. “This is just the beginning.”
