BREAKING NEWS: Savannah Bananas Owners Jesse and Emily Cole Donate \$12.9M to Combat Homelessness in U.S.

In a powerful display of compassion and community commitment, Jesse and Emily Cole, owners of the beloved Savannah Bananas baseball team, have announced a monumental donation of their entire \$12.9 million in bonuses and sponsorship earnings to combat homelessness in the United States.

At a press conference held Friday afternoon, the couple revealed that the funds will be used to build two large-scale homeless support centers — one in Chicago, Illinois and another in Rancho Cucamonga, California. These centers will house a combined total of 150 permanent housing units and provide 300 shelter beds for individuals and families in need.

“I have witnessed people struggling to survive the harsh winters in the U.S. without a roof over their heads,” Jesse Cole said, visibly emotional. “I promised myself that if I ever had the chance, I would step up. No one should have to sleep outside in that kind of cold.”

The initiative, dubbed “Homeplate for All,” will be managed in partnership with local nonprofit housing organizations and city officials. It aims not only to provide emergency shelter, but also long-term support services such as mental health counseling, job placement assistance, and addiction recovery programs.

Emily Cole emphasized the importance of treating homelessness as more than just a housing issue. “This is about restoring dignity and providing opportunity,” she said. “Every person deserves a chance to get back on their feet.”

Construction on both sites is scheduled to begin later this year, with the first housing units expected to open by fall 2026. City officials in both Chicago and Rancho Cucamonga have praised the donation as a transformative step forward for their communities.

The Savannah Bananas, known for their viral performances and innovative approach to baseball, have long promoted joy and positivity — both on and off the field. This donation marks one of the largest private contributions to homelessness initiatives in recent years by figures in the sports world.

“What Jesse and Emily have done goes far beyond baseball,” said Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. “This is humanity in action.”

In a world where many struggle just to make it through the day, the Coles’ donation offers not just shelter — but hope.
