Ozzy Osbourne’s funeral cortege will pass through the heart of Birmingham on Wednesday, marking an emotional farewell to the Prince of Darkness in the city where his legendary career began. A key moment in the journey will be a pause at the Black Sabbath Bridge on Broad Street, a site that has transformed into a shrine since the rock icon’s passing.

At 1pm, Ozzy’s family is expected to visit the bridge to see the outpouring of tributes from fans who have gathered there since news of his death broke. Bouquets of flowers, handwritten notes, candles, and Black Sabbath memorabilia now cover the area around the commemorative bench and plaque dedicated to the pioneering heavy metal band.

Ozzy, who was 76, died peacefully surrounded by family, according to a statement released earlier this week. His death marks the end of an era for millions of fans around the world, but especially in Birmingham, where he grew up in Aston and formed Black Sabbath alongside Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward in 1968.

The Black Sabbath Bridge, renamed in 2019 in honour of the band, has become a place of reflection and remembrance. Fans have visited from all over the country to pay tribute to Ozzy, whose music and persona left an indelible mark on rock history.

Local authorities have advised the public to arrive early and allow extra time for travel, as crowds are expected to gather along the route to pay their respects. While the full procession details remain private, the stop at the bridge will be a poignant moment for the city and a powerful tribute to one of Birmingham’s most iconic sons.
