BREAKING: Ohio State QB Makes Transfer Portal Decision After National Championship…see more

Following Ohio State’s 34-23 victory over Notre Dame in the national championship, backup quarterback Devin Brown has announced his decision to transfer to the University of California. Brown, who joined the Buckeyes in 2022, served as the backup quarterback for the past two seasons, playing behind Kyle McCord in 2023 and Will Howard in 2024. Over his tenure at Ohio State, Brown appeared in 15 games, completing 27 of 48 passes for 331 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He also contributed on the ground with 30 rushes for 37 yards and a touchdown.

Brown entered the NCAA transfer portal on December 9 but chose to remain with the Buckeyes through their College Football Playoff run, culminating in the national championship victory. With two years of eligibility remaining, Brown aims to secure a starting role at Cal, especially following the transfer of their quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, to Indiana.

Ohio State’s quarterback room is undergoing significant changes. In addition to Brown’s departure, starting quarterback Will Howard is also leaving, and reserve quarterback Air Noland has transferred. To address these vacancies, the Buckeyes have acquired Julian Sayin, a transfer from Alabama, and have signed five-star prospect Tavien St. Clair.

These developments reflect the dynamic nature of college football rosters in the current era, where player transfers are increasingly common. Ohio State’s ability to adapt to these changes will be crucial as they prepare for the upcoming season.
