Netflix has announced a new documentary series titled The Man Behind The Doors: Signature Sound, set to premiere on June 15, 2025. This series delves into the life and legacy of Ray Manzarek, the iconic keyboardist of The Doors, exploring his pivotal role in shaping the band’s distinctive sound.
Ray Manzarek co-founded The Doors in 1965 alongside Jim Morrison, John Densmore, and Robby Krieger. His innovative use of the Vox Continental organ and Fender Rhodes keyboard bass created a rich, layered sound that became synonymous with the band’s music. Manzarek’s contributions were instrumental in crafting hits like “Light My Fire,” “Riders on the Storm,” and “People Are Strange.”
The documentary series features rare archival footage, interviews with surviving band members, and insights from music historians, offering a comprehensive look at Manzarek’s artistic vision and his influence on rock music. It also highlights his collaborations post-Doors, including his work with Iggy Pop and the formation of Manzarek–Krieger.
The Man Behind The Doors: Signature Sound aims to provide both longtime fans and new audiences with a deeper understanding of Ray Manzarek’s legacy and his lasting impact on the music industry.
The series will be available for streaming on Netflix starting June 15, 2025.
