Jason Bonham, son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, has long envisioned a tribute that would bring his father back to the stage in a groundbreaking way: as a hologram. In 2013, he shared his dream of performing a drum duet with a digital version of his dad during his tribute band’s shows. He stated, “My dream is to do the hologram drum solo with dad next to me… That is my goal, my dream and we’re just trying to figure out everything that we can do with this show.”
To honor his father’s legacy, Jason founded Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience in 2010, later renamed Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening. This tribute band not only performs Led Zeppelin’s classics but also incorporates multimedia elements, including video footage of John Bonham, to create an immersive experience for fans. One of the standout moments of the show is the “Moby Dick” segment, where Jason plays alongside his father’s pre-recorded performance.
While the technology to bring John Bonham back as a hologram has advanced, Jason has expressed interest in exploring this avenue further, aiming to push the boundaries of tribute performances. He has mentioned discussions with special effects experts about the possibility, highlighting the emotional and artistic significance of such an endeavor.
Through his tribute band and ongoing efforts, Jason Bonham continues to celebrate his father’s monumental impact on rock music, ensuring that John Bonham’s legacy endures for generations to come.
