Chris Beard, head coach of the Ole Miss men’s basketball team, has reportedly decided to remain with the Rebels, quelling earlier speculations about his potential departure to Texas A&M. In his second season, Beard led Ole Miss to a 24-12 overall record, including a 10-8 mark in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), and secured a Sweet Sixteen appearance—the program’s first since 2001.
To retain Beard’s services, Ole Miss is offering him a contract extension, a salary increase, and enhanced Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) support to bolster the team’s competitiveness. Beard’s leadership has revitalized the program, generating increased fan engagement and record-breaking attendance at games.
Prior to joining Ole Miss in March 2023, Beard had a distinguished coaching career, including a tenure at Texas Tech where he led the team to the 2019 NCAA Championship game. His experience and success have significantly impacted Ole Miss, setting a new standard for the basketball program.
Beard’s decision to stay at Ole Miss is viewed as a positive development for the team, as it ensures continuity and the continued pursuit of excellence in future season.
