Kyle Williams, All-America Defensive Tackle, Returns to LSU as Defensive Line Coach
BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU football is bringing back one of its most decorated former players, as Kyle Williams has been named the Tigers’ new defensive line coach. The former All-America defensive tackle, who enjoyed a 13-year NFL career with the Buffalo Bills, returns to Baton Rouge to help develop the next generation of LSU defensive linemen.
Williams was a standout at LSU from 2002 to 2005, playing a crucial role in the Tigers’ 2003 national championship-winning defense. Known for his relentless motor and leadership, he earned All-SEC and All-America honors before being selected by the Bills in the fifth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Over the course of his professional career, Williams became a six-time Pro Bowler and one of the most respected defensive linemen in the league.
Since retiring from the NFL in 2018, Williams has remained active in football, working with young players at the high school level and serving as a mentor to up-and-coming defensive linemen. His deep understanding of the game, combined with his firsthand knowledge of LSU’s culture, makes him an ideal fit for Brian Kelly’s coaching staff.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kyle Williams back to LSU,” Kelly said in a statement. “His passion for the game, his love for this university, and his ability to develop players at the highest level will make an immediate impact on our program.”
Williams inherits a talented LSU defensive line and will be tasked with continuing the program’s tradition of producing elite defensive talent. His return marks a full-circle moment for a player who once dominated Tiger Stadium and now looks to mold the next generation of LSU greats.
