Will Howard Explains His Decision to Decommit from Ohio State and Commit to LSU Football

Quarterback Will Howard made headlines when he announced his decision to decommit from Ohio State and instead join LSU’s 2025 recruiting class. The former Buckeyes pledge cited multiple factors in his change of heart, including coaching relationships, offensive scheme fit, and long-term development opportunities.

Howard originally committed to Ohio State with the belief that their system would maximize his potential. However, after further evaluation, he realized that LSU’s offensive approach under head coach Brian Kelly better aligned with his playing style. The Tigers’ track record of producing top-tier quarterbacks, including Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels, played a key role in his choice.

“The more I looked into it, the more I saw myself thriving in LSU’s system,” Howard said. “Their offense gives quarterbacks the freedom to make plays, and I believe Coach Kelly and his staff can help me take my game to the next level.”

Beyond the Xs and Os, Howard emphasized the relationships he built with LSU’s coaching staff. He felt a strong connection with offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan, who assured him he would have a real opportunity to compete early in his college career.

Additionally, Howard cited the atmosphere in Baton Rouge as a major draw. “Death Valley on a Saturday night is something special,” he said. “The culture, the fans, and the way they develop their players—it’s everything I was looking for.”

While decommitting from Ohio State wasn’t an easy decision, Howard believes LSU is the best place for him. As one of the top quarterback prospects in his class, his commitment gives the Tigers a major boost for the future. Now, his focus is on preparing to bring championships to Baton Rouge.
