Yolett McPhee-McCuin: Leading Ole Miss Women’s Basketball to Success
Yolett McPhee-McCuin, widely known as “Coach Yo,” is in her seventh season as the head coach of the Ole Miss women’s basketball team. Since taking over the program in 2018, she has transformed the Rebels into a competitive force in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and a consistent NCAA Tournament contender.
Born in the Bahamas, McPhee-McCuin made history as the first Bahamian woman to coach at a Power Five program. Before arriving at Ole Miss, she spent five seasons as the head coach at Jacksonville University, leading the Dolphins to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. Her ability to rebuild programs and develop players has been a hallmark of her coaching career.
When she arrived at Ole Miss, the program was struggling, but through strong recruiting, player development, and a defensive-minded approach, she quickly turned things around. By the 2021–22 season, she guided the Rebels to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 15 years. The following year, they reached the Sweet 16, marking another milestone in her tenure.
Coach Yo is known for her high-energy coaching style, passion for player empowerment, and commitment to fostering a winning culture. She has recruited and developed standout players, helping them reach the professional level. Under her leadership, Ole Miss continues to rise in national prominence.
As she enters her seventh season, McPhee-McCuin remains focused on taking the Rebels to new heights, with aspirations of competing for SEC titles and making deeper runs in the NCAA Tournament. Her impact extends beyond basketball, as she serves as a mentor and role model for young athletes, especially those from the Caribbean.
