Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger: LSU Hires Kyle Williams as Defensive Line Coach

LSU has officially welcomed back one of its own, hiring former Tigers standout and NFL Pro Bowler Kyle Williams as the team’s new defensive line coach. Williams, a Louisiana native and former LSU defensive lineman, brings a wealth of experience to Brian Kelly’s coaching staff as he returns to Baton Rouge.

Williams was a key part of LSU’s defensive front from 2002 to 2005, helping lead the Tigers to a BCS National Championship in 2003. Following an impressive college career, he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Over 13 seasons in the league, Williams became one of the most respected defensive tackles in football, earning six Pro Bowl selections and establishing himself as a leader on and off the field.

After retiring from the NFL in 2018, Williams transitioned into coaching, serving as the head coach at Ruston High School in Louisiana. His ability to develop players and his deep understanding of defensive line play made him an attractive candidate for LSU’s staff.

Bringing Williams on board is a significant addition for the Tigers, as his experience and passion for the program align perfectly with LSU’s culture. His connection to the university, combined with his extensive playing career, will provide immediate credibility in recruiting and player development.

With Williams now leading LSU’s defensive line, Tiger fans can expect a tough, disciplined, and high-energy unit. His hire marks yet another step in Kelly’s efforts to build a championship-caliber staff, and for Williams, it’s a homecoming that reinforces the mantra: *Once a Tiger, always a Tiger.*
