Historic 2025 Commitment: Top 6’3 250 Five-Star EDGE from Harvest, AL has committed to Alabama, chosing the Crimson Tide over Florida State, LSU, & Clemson….

In a significant boost to their 2026 recruiting class, the Alabama Crimson Tide have secured a commitment from four-star EDGE rusher Jamarion Matthews. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound standout from Gainesville, Georgia, chose Alabama over prominent programs such as Florida State, LSU, and Clemson. Notably, Matthews hails from Harvest, Alabama, and is transferring to Gainesville for his senior year.

Matthews is ranked as the No. 17 EDGE in his class and is among the top 200 players nationally, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. His decision to commit to Alabama underscores head coach Kalen DeBoer’s renewed emphasis on in-state recruiting. The Crimson Tide have been focusing on securing top talent from Alabama, especially after signing only two in-state players in the previous cycle, neither of whom ranked among the state’s top 10 prospects.

Matthews’ commitment brings Alabama’s 2026 class to three members, joining four-star cornerback Zyan Gibson and recently committed interior offensive lineman Chris Booker. This surge in recruiting momentum is timely, with official visits on the horizon and expectations of more blue-chip prospects joining the fold in the coming months.

Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack is likely to utilize Matthews in the “Bandit” position within Alabama’s defensive scheme. This role is tailored for versatile edge rushers capable of both pressuring the quarterback and dropping into coverage, aligning well with Matthews’ skill set.

Matthews’ commitment not only strengthens Alabama’s defensive lineup but also signifies a strategic win in the competitive landscape of college football recruiting. By securing top-tier talent from their home state, the Crimson Tide are reinforcing their dominance and setting the stage for sustained success in the seasons to come.
