‘TOOK IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL’, Roger Federer Shares SEND-OFF Message to Rafael Nadal as He Nears RETIREMENT..

In a heartfelt tribute, Roger Federer honored his longtime rival and friend, Rafael Nadal, as the Spanish tennis legend approached retirement. Nadal, renowned for his unparalleled prowess on clay courts and a record 14 French Open titles, announced his decision to retire after the Davis Cup Finals in November 2024, citing persistent physical challenges.

Federer, who concluded his own illustrious career in 2022, shared an emotional letter on Instagram, reflecting on their storied rivalry and deep camaraderie. He began by acknowledging the intensity of their matches, noting, “As you get ready to graduate from tennis, I’ve got a few things to share before I maybe get emotional. Let’s start with the obvious: you beat me—a lot. More than I managed to beat you. You challenged me in ways no one else could.”

The Swiss maestro reminisced about the unique challenges Nadal presented, especially on clay courts, often considered Nadal’s domain. Federer admitted, “On clay, it felt like I was stepping into your backyard, and you made me work harder than I ever thought I could just to hold my ground.”

Beyond their on-court battles, Federer expressed admiration for Nadal’s distinctive rituals and routines, which have become emblematic of his playing style. He affectionately recounted, “I’m not a very superstitious person, but you took it to the next level. Your whole process. All those rituals. Assembling your water bottles like toy soldiers in formation, fixing your hair, adjusting your underwear… All of it with the highest intensity. Secretly, I kind of loved the whole thing. Because it was so unique—it was so you.”

Their relationship transcended rivalry, culminating in memorable collaborations, notably their doubles partnership during Federer’s final professional match at the 2022 Laver Cup. Federer reflected on this poignant moment, stating, “It meant everything to me that you were there by my side—not as my rival but as my doubles partner. Sharing the court with you that night, and sharing those tears, will forever be one of the most special moments of my career.”

As Nadal prepared for his final matches, Federer offered heartfelt wishes for the future, writing, “Rafa, I know you’re focused on the last stretch of your epic career. We will talk when it’s done. For now, I just want to congratulate your family and team, who all played a massive role in your success. And I want you to know that your old friend is always cheering for you, and will be cheering just as loud for everything you do next.”

Nadal’s retirement marks the end of an era in tennis, closing a chapter defined by the remarkable rivalry and mutual respect between two of the sport’s greatest ambassadors.
