John Force, the legendary 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion, has made a heartfelt return to the racing community in 2025, though not yet behind the wheel. After a severe crash in June 2024 at the Virginia Nationals resulted in a traumatic brain injury (TBI), Force has been dedicated to an intensive recovery process. While he continues to undergo therapy under the supervision of TBI specialists, his passion for the sport remains undiminished.
In December 2024, Force announced that he would not compete in the 2025 NHRA season, focusing instead on his health. Jack Beckman, the 2012 Funny Car world champion, has been named as his replacement for the season. Beckman, who stepped in for Force after the accident, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am thrilled to continue a partnership with PEAK and BlueDEF and look forward to returning to JFR in 2025.”
Despite not racing, Force’s presence is palpable. He made his first trackside appearance of 2025 at the PRO Superstar Shootout in Bradenton Motorsports Park. Reflecting on the experience, Force shared, “Being here in Bradenton was just good for my heart… I was excited just to be where I need to be.”
Force’s commitment to his recovery and the sport is unwavering. He continues regular therapy sessions and remains optimistic about a future return to racing. In a message to his fans, he conveyed, “I’m still going to therapy every week and working as hard as I can to get back out there with the sponsors and the fans in a sport I love and I miss.”
As the 2025 NHRA season progresses, the racing community eagerly anticipates Force’s full recovery and potential return to competition. In the meantime, his legacy and influence continue to inspire both fans and fellow racers alike.
