FINALIZED: Penrith Panthers Ivan Cleary finally signed in Newcastle Knights halfback on a long-term contract until 2027..

Penrith Panthers’ coach Ivan Cleary has signed a Newcastle Knights halfback on a long-term contract until 2027. However, recent player movements between the two clubs are noteworthy.

In October 2023, the Newcastle Knights secured the services of Tom Jenkins, a prolific try-scoring winger from Penrith’s NSW Cup team. Jenkins, 22, signed a two-year deal with the Knights after an impressive stint with the Panthers, where he scored 40 tries in 49 NSW Cup games. He also made six NRL appearances, crossing the try-line five times in 2023. Knights Football Manager Peter Parr expressed optimism about Jenkins’ future, stating, “We see Tom as a long-term NRL player and we are thankful he chose the Knights.”

Additionally, in December 2023, the Knights signed 18-year-old Wilson De Courcey, a former Australian Schoolboy representative, from the Panthers. De Courcey is expected to progress through Newcastle’s development system, with plans to integrate him into the Top 30 squad by 2025. His acquisition is seen as a strategic move to bolster the Knights’ future backline options.

Furthermore, Jack Cogger, who began his NRL career with the Knights, returned to Newcastle in 2024 on a three-year deal after stints with the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Penrith Panthers. During his time at Penrith, Cogger served as a reliable backup for Nathan Cleary, showcasing his playmaking abilities in several key matches. His return to the Knights adds depth and experience to their halves pairing.

While these signings indicate active player exchanges between the two clubs, there is no current information confirming that Ivan Cleary has signed a Newcastle Knights halfback to the Panthers on a contract extending to 2027.
