Brendan Hands emerged as a pivotal player for the Eels in the previous season, participating in nearly 20 NRL matches. His dynamic playmaking abilities and versatility, including a running threat from dummy half and proficiency in multiple positions, have been instrumental to the team’s performance. Sean Russell, a product of the Eels’ Elite Pathways system, has also committed to the club through the 2026 season. Since making his NRL debut in 2021, Russell has shown significant development, culminating in his selection for the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII team. O’Neill highlighted Russell’s journey, noting, “Sean has worked incredibly hard on his game which reflected in his performances throughout the season… Sean is a wonderful team man with his best football ahead of him and we’re proud to have him continue to represent the Club.”
In addition to these extensions, the Eels have bolstered their backline by signing Zac Lomax from the St. George Illawarra Dragons on a four-year deal starting in 2025. Lomax, who has been a standout performer for the Dragons, expressed a preference for playing in the center position, a role he is expected to fill at Parramatta. Parramatta’s CEO, Jim Sarantinos, expressed confidence in Lomax’s acquisition, stating, “Zac is a great talent and we’re confident he will be an invaluable addition to our team.”
