The Penrith Panthers have solidified their roster by securing long-term commitments from two of their key players, Mitch Kenny and Liam Martin, both extending their contracts until the end of the 2027 NRL season.
Mitch Kenny, the 26-year-old hooker and a product of the Panthers’ development system, has been a consistent performer since his debut in 2019. Over 86 NRL games, he has become a dual premiership winner, contributing significantly to the team’s recent successes. Expressing his enthusiasm about the extension, Kenny stated, “I’m thrilled to commit to the Panthers because this place is home to me. Ivan Cleary and everyone at the club have supported me from the beginning, and I’m excited to repay the faith to them.”
Liam Martin, a 25-year-old forward hailing from Temora, has also extended his tenure with the Panthers. Joining the club in 2015, Martin progressed through the ranks to become a dual premiership winner and an international representative. Since his NRL debut in 2019, he has played 95 games, represented New South Wales in nine State of Origin matches, and played five Tests for Australia. Upon re-signing, Martin remarked, “I’m really excited to stay at the club that gave me my first opportunity. I think the culture we’re building at the club is something special and something I want to be a part of.”
These extensions reflect the Panthers’ strategy of retaining homegrown talent to maintain their competitive edge. Coach Ivan Cleary expressed his satisfaction with Martin’s re-signing, stating, “Marto is a quality player. He’s come through this system and he loves the Panthers – you can see that by the way he plays.”
Similarly, the club’s General Manager of Rugby League, Shane Elford, highlighted Kenny’s contributions: “Mitch embodies the core qualities we value at our club, seen through his courage, determination, and dedication to his team.”
These signings are part of a broader effort by the Panthers to secure their core players for the long term. Notably, in April 2022, both coach Ivan Cleary and co-captain Nathan Cleary extended their contracts with the club until the end of the 2027 season, signaling a strong commitment to sustained success.
By locking in these key players, the Panthers aim to build upon their recent achievements and continue their pursuit of excellence in the NRL.
