In a significant development for the Brisbane Broncos, head coach Michael Maguire has confirmed that Adam Reynolds will continue as the team’s captain for the 2025 NRL season. This decision marks Reynolds’ fourth consecutive year in the leadership role since joining the Broncos in 2022.
Reynolds and Maguire share a deep-rooted history, having previously collaborated at the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Maguire, who granted Reynolds his NRL debut in 2012, expressed his confidence in the veteran halfback’s leadership. He stated, “I’ve always said Reyno is a leader, and it’s very clear to me that this group of players really enjoy playing with him, but importantly—for him.”
Reflecting on his journey, Reynolds remarked, “I feel like it’s gone full circle with Madge; he obviously gave me my debut jersey, and now, I’m a little older, but he’s still showing faith in me to continue as captain, and as a person.”
In addition to reaffirming Reynolds’ captaincy, Maguire has expanded the team’s leadership group. Ben Hunt joins existing leaders Pat Carrigan, Payne Haas, and Kotoni Staggs in senior leadership roles. Maguire emphasized the importance of collective leadership, stating, “Everyone brings something different to the table in terms of the way they go about their business; that’s what makes special teams.”
Reynolds, 34, has been instrumental in the Broncos’ performance over the past three seasons, leading the team in 56 games with a win percentage of approximately 60.7%. His tenure includes a Grand Final appearance in 2023.
As the Broncos prepare for the upcoming season, the reaffirmation of Reynolds’ captaincy and the bolstering of the leadership group signal a strategic move to harness both experience and emerging talent. The team aims to leverage this leadership structure to navigate the challenges of the 2025 NRL season and strive for a return to the finals.
