Mark Fletcher Jr., a highly touted running back in the 2025 recruiting class, recently announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs, a decision that sent ripples through the college football recruiting world. The move came after he decommitted from Florida State, a program he had pledged to earlier in his recruitment process. Fletcher opened up about his decision, citing a combination of football aspirations, personal connections, and Georgia’s track record for success as the primary reasons for his change of heart.
Fletcher, a 6’1”, 225-pound back out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is ranked among the top running backs in the country. His physical style and versatility have made him one of the most sought-after recruits in the 2025 class. While his initial commitment to Florida State was celebrated by Seminoles fans, Fletcher admitted that he continued to evaluate his options and ultimately felt Georgia was a better fit for his future.
“When I visited Georgia, I could feel the family atmosphere,” Fletcher said. “The coaching staff genuinely cares about their players, not just as athletes but as individuals. That’s something that really stood out to me. Coach [Kirby] Smart and Coach Dell McGee showed me a clear plan for how I’d fit into their offense and how they could develop me to reach my full potential.”
Another factor in Fletcher’s decision was Georgia’s recent success on the national stage. The Bulldogs have solidified themselves as a powerhouse in college football, winning multiple national championships under Smart’s leadership. Fletcher acknowledged that Georgia’s proven ability to develop NFL-caliber running backs, such as Nick Chubb and D’Andre Swift, played a pivotal role in his commitment.
“Georgia’s history with running backs speaks for itself,” Fletcher added. “I want to be part of a program that’s going to push me to be great, not just at the college level but also to prepare me for the NFL.”
The decommitment from Florida State was not an easy choice for Fletcher, who expressed gratitude to the Seminoles’ coaching staff for their support throughout the process. However, he emphasized that his decision was about finding the best fit for his goals.
“This decision wasn’t about leaving Florida State as much as it was about finding the right home for me,” Fletcher said. “I have nothing but respect for the Seminoles, but Georgia is where I feel I can thrive.”
With his commitment to Georgia, Fletcher joins a program poised to remain at the top of college football and adds to an already stacked recruiting class for the Bulldogs.
