Carson Beck, the University of Georgia’s starting quarterback for the past two seasons, has reversed his decision to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead, he has entered the NCAA transfer portal and committed to the University of Miami for the upcoming season.
Beck’s initial declaration for the NFL Draft came shortly after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, an injury sustained during the SEC Championship Game against Texas. This injury prevented him from participating in the College Football Playoff.
In the 2024 season, Beck threw for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. His performance was slightly less impressive than the previous year, where he amassed 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The elbow injury and a perceived decline in performance led to uncertainties about his draft prospects.
Upon entering the transfer portal, Beck quickly committed to the University of Miami. Factors influencing this decision include the departure of Miami’s starting quarterback, Cam Ward, to the NFL Draft, and Beck’s relationship with Hanna Cavinder, a guard on Miami’s women’s basketball team.
Beck’s move to Miami is also financially advantageous. Reports suggest he has secured a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal worth approximately $4 million, highlighting the growing impact of NIL agreements in college athletics.
Beck is expected to be fully recovered and ready to participate in fall camp with the Hurricanes. His addition aims to bolster Miami’s offense and enhance his prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft.
