The Penrith Panthers have solidified their roster ahead of the 2025 NRL season by securing contract extensions for two pivotal players: Nathan Cleary and Paul Alamoti.
**Nathan Cleary’s Extension**
Star halfback Nathan Cleary has agreed to a three-year contract extension, ensuring his presence at the club until the end of the 2027 season. This deal, reportedly valued at $38.4 million, positions Cleary as one of the highest-paid players in NRL history.
Cleary, who debuted with the Panthers in 2016, has been instrumental in the team’s recent successes, including back-to-back premierships in 2021 and 2022. His exceptional playmaking abilities, leadership, and consistent performances have been central to the Panthers’ dominance in the league.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Cleary stated, “I’m thrilled to be staying at the Panthers. This club means everything to me, and I’m excited about what the future holds. We have a great group of players, and I believe we can achieve even more together.”
Head coach Ivan Cleary, Nathan’s father, remarked, “Nathan’s dedication and work ethic are second to none. His extension is not just a win for our team but a testament to the culture we have built here at Penrith.”
**Paul Alamoti’s Commitment**
In addition to Cleary’s extension, the Panthers have secured the services of promising outside back Paul Alamoti until the end of the 2027 season. Alamoti, 20, joined the Panthers at the start of 2024 and made a significant impact, scoring eight tries and kicking 18 goals in 16 matches. His contributions were pivotal in the Panthers’ premiership success, highlighted by a try in the grand final.
Alamoti’s impressive form earned him a Test debut for Tonga, further showcasing his burgeoning talent on the international stage.
Panthers General Manager of Football, Shane Elford, expressed his satisfaction with Alamoti’s extension: “We’re pleased to have Paul commit to Panthers until the end of 2027. Paul is an exceptionally talented and respectful young man, both on and off the field. He has taken every opportunity presented to him, and we are excited to see what the future holds for him with the Panthers.”
**Looking Ahead**
These strategic contract extensions underscore the Panthers’ commitment to maintaining a competitive and cohesive squad. By retaining key talents like Cleary and Alamoti, the club aims to build upon its recent successes and continue its pursuit of NRL supremacy in the upcoming seasons.
